Checklist of Preventative Medicine
The Down Syndrome Preventive Medical Check List was produced by the Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group. It provides a checklist of additional tests and evaluations recommended specifically for children and adults with Down syndrome. The checklists cover Birth to Age 12 Years and 13 Years to Adulthood. These checklists are to accompany the above Down Syndrome Health Care Guidelines.
Recommended Checklist of preventive medicine for children with Down syndrome
Birth to 3 months
- general pediatrics
- genetic counseling
- pediatric cardiology
- thyroid function testing
- motor evaluation
- Occupational/Physical Therapy (OT/PT)
3 to 12 month
- speech evaluation
- hearing evaluation
- feeding evaluation
- ophthalmologic exam
- ENT exam
- enrollment in Infant Stimulation Program
- developmental evaluation
2 years to puberty
ANNUALLY- general pediatrics
- thyroid screen
- OT/PT
BIANNUALLY
- Ophthalmology
- developmental evaluation
OTHER
- Atlanto-axial instability
- screening at 3 years and 12 years
