Thanks to Jacqui, Traci, and Jean for making our Thursday night meals delicious! Chad learned so much during the cooking lessons. He now knows several quick, easy recipes and is looking forward to fixing them during the holidays for our family. Before these cooking lessons he didn't know to chop. Now he reminds everyone, use a "bear claw" to hold the vegetable, and use your finger and thumb to hold the knife - just like holding your nose to swim. Because of the cooking lessons, Chad is now able to fix simple meals and follow a recipe. He learned to use measuring cups and spoons, and how to whisk, fold and stir. He is always so proud to take pictures of his finished meal, and because he has made it, he is much more willing to try new foods packed with nutritious, yummy vegetables. Thanks again to DSACK and Jacqui - you enrich our lives in so many ways!

Let’s get cooking! DSACK’s Cooking Class uses cooking, games, and take-home recipes to teach students ages 13 and up about food safety, label reading, healthy eating, powering up with breakfast, meal planning, and budgeting.
The class is a collaborative effort with the Nutrition Education Program assistant with the Fayette County Extension Service. Taught in Extension’s commercial kitchen, students get hands-on experience in the planning and preparation of healthy meals.
Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
